We recognize that many of our staff members are already utilizing AI tools; however, in support of cyber security best practices, we are currently encouraging staff members to use Microsoft Copilot as the supported AI platform for District work and devices.
Why Copilot?
Copilot is an advanced AI text composition assistant (and more) that can help us create clear, effective communication in various contexts and languages. Copilot is currently the only AI tool that meets the district’s security requirements.
Accessing Copilot
By signing into the Microsoft account with SD62 credentials, staff can access our secured Copilot environment.
Canva
Sooke School District supports the thoughtful use of digital tools that enhance teaching, streamline workflows, and build student capacity for the future. Canva is one such tool that aligns with our district priorities around accessibility, creativity, and responsible use of technology.
Canva provides educators with an intuitive platform to create high-quality instructional materials quickly. Canva reduces the time spent on formatting and design, allowing teachers to focus more on instruction and student support.
Introducing Canva also creates opportunities to teach students about digital creation in a structured and age-appropriate way. Its AI features offer a practical entry point for helping students understand:
- how AI tools work
- when and why to use them
- the importance of critical thinking and human oversight
By using a guided platform like Canva, educators can model responsible and ethical AI use in a controlled environment. This supports students in developing foundational skills in digital literacy, creativity, and responsible technology use, which are key competencies for their future.
Canva has been selected because it offers a balance of functionality and safety. Within district guidelines, its use can be framed with clear expectations around privacy, appropriate content creation, and academic integrity. Teachers remain the decision-makers in how and when AI features are used in their classrooms.
